Peer Mentors

Welcome to our Peer Mentor Page.

At Glusburn School we recognise the value that pupil support has in enhancing the social skills, interaction and citizenship amongst children. It also promotes an ethos of responsibility and care for others within the school and provides positive role models.

We organise a number of mentoring programmes within school, including participating yearly in the South Craven School Mentoring Scheme.

South Craven Mentoring Scheme

This is a programme which sees a number of pupils from the Sixth Form at South Craven School undertaking training to enable them to support younger pupils within their primary school.
The mentors volunteer their services and are trained in listening skills, confidentiality, problem solving and empathy. This provides some of our pupils with a friendly and enthusiastic young person who will take an interest in their achievements and school life. They offer guidance, advice and support all of which impact positively on the life of the younger student. All the volunteers undergo a CRB check in line with our Safeguarding Children Policy.

We also provide our own in-house mentoring, which involves some of our older children supporting younger pupils. This support can be during breaks, lunchtime and sometimes in the classroom. The aim is to provide positive and nurturing role models to help encourage successful relationships based on caring, respect and trust. Peer mentoring is beneficial to all involved, the children who mentor further develop responsibility, empathy and social skills along with gaining a sense of pride and satisfaction in their role.
Peer mentoring can be accessed via the Learning Mentor, Inclusion Manager or Head Teacher.
