Sporting Achievements 2017-2018

17th October 2017: Football Tournament Y3/4 and Y5/6 WINNERS!


Glusburn do the double-double!

On Tuesday 17th October the school competed in the School Sports’ Partnership Cluster Round at South Craven School. We entered a Y3/4 mixed gender team into the lower Key Stage 2 competition, alongside a Y5/6 boys’ team in the upper Key Stage 2 competition.  The teams competed against local cluster schools. Both teams won their respective tournamnents.

The Y5/6 team will now go on to compete at the School Sports’ Partnership Craven Finals representing the South Craven District. Thank you to all parents and families who supported the event, and to Mrs Wilcock who coached the Y3/4 team.

Having won both tournaments last season too (Y3/4 & Y5/6), this is a unique double-double success! This is on top of our recent success last month, winning the South Craven cluster Cross Country tournament, where 8 of our children will now be representing the whole of Craven in the North Yorkshire Finals in March 2018. Well done team GB (Glusburn).

Achievements 2016-2017

2nd July 2017

Champion Cyclist

Year 2 Pupil Charlie Albone won the British School’s regional and national mountain bike titles for his age group at Penistone Hill near Haworth on the 2nd July. Charlie, who rides for Bronte Tykes CC based in Keighley races regularly on the track and in cyclo-cross races across Yorkshire, began the race with his trademark quick start, developing a solid lead on the demanding 4.5 mile course over rough and technical terrain. During the race he overcome a crash 2 laps in, but managed to carry on to win by over a minute from the second placed rider from Leeds. Everybody from his club and his school are very proud of him. During assembly when asked by the Headteacher, ‘What makes a great Champion?’ Charlie replied: “Working hard and crossing the finish line first!”.

Y2 take Gold in the South Craven Mini-Olympics!

On Tuesday 27th June our Y2 children took part in the annual South Craven Primary School’s Mini-Olympics!

The team competed in athletic and a range of agility, coordination and stamina activities. The school won Gold!

The teams were:

Summer Kaminski, Lottie Beckwith, Emily Read, Zach Day, Michael Hitch, Louis Sugden, Joshua Barton, Luisa Strazeri-Roe.

Craven Cricket Champions

Glusburn School cricket team were crowned Champions of Craven on 20th June. The team, who were representing the South Craven district in the Craven finals, competed against Threshfield, Water Street and Rathmell winning all 3 matches scoring over 800 runs. The team will now compete in the North Yorkshire Finals on Tuesday 27th June in York representing the Craven area.

The team: Alex Mortimer, Matthew Boast, Stanley Lloyd, Jack Hardaker, Noah Smith, Austin Dyson, Freddie Pickles, Zach Filkin.

Rounders Champions!

Congratulations to the Y6 Rounders Team, who were crowned champions of South Craven on Wednesday afternoon. The team competed against against Hothfield, Cononley and Lothersfield  in the group stage winning each game.  

The team, led by captains Matthew Boast and Stan Lloyd, took on Cowling in the semi final and then Kildwick in the final, again winning both matches.

The team were well organised in the field and demonstrated excellent fielding skills with some incredible catches from Lilli Cox and Stan Lloyd. Matthew Boast and Noah Smith also gave an amazing batting performance sending the ball soaring across the field, allowing them to get several rounders for the team.

Miss Wilcock said the pupils – Izzy-mai Foster, Ellie Tiler, Matthew Boast, Greg Riddiough, Lilli Cox, Mari Gamston, Hallie Fitton, Stan Lloyd, Noah Smith and Freddie Pickles are very talented players who gave a great team performance.

8th June 2017

Our Y3/4 Cricket team competed in the local South Craven Primary School tournament. They played Eastburn CP School, Sutton-in-Craven CP School and Kildwick CE School. The tournament was played inside due to poor weather, however the team showed excellent bowling and batting skills as they performed in their first cricket tournament, gaining in confidence after each game.

Cricket Champions!

Congratulations to the Y5/6 Cricket team, who were crowned champions of South Craven on Wednesday afternoon. The team competed against Kildwick, Lothersdale, Sutton-in-Craven CE School and Sutton-in-Craven CP School, winning all four matches. Led by captain, Freddie Pickles (Y6), the team were well organised in the field and demonstrated excellent fielding with some incredible catches from Noah Smith (Y6). The team also gave an  amazing batting  performance scoring over 1000 runs with several shots clearing the boundary, with Matthew Boast and Alex Mortimer giving the ball some ‘welly’, ticking the scoreboard over at an astonishing rate! A great team performance from very talented sportmen.

Cycling Champion!

Well done Charlie Albone (Year 2 – right of picture) who became the 3rd best cyclist in Britain for his age group (under 7s) at the National Championships for the British Schools Cycling Association at Birmingham on Saturday 11th March.


8th March 2017: Netball


Well done to our school netball team who competed at the South Craven Primary Schools tournament on Wednesday. The team won through to the semi-finals beating Cononley 2-0, before losing to Hothfield in the final. However our team will now go on to represent the South Craven area in the Craven Finals at the beginning of April. This is an incredible achievement for a group of pupils who have only recently started playing netball together, competing in their first ever tournament!

The team was: Tallula Barnett, Grace Ogley, Evie Farnell, Olivia Aldham, Tommy Allwood, Branden Lambert, Lily Cox, Jack Hardaker and Lois Hunt.


7th March 2017: Swimming Finals


Well done to Harry Kaminski who represented South Craven at the Craven swimming finals on Tuesday.

The South Craven team won the tournament! 1st Place: South Craven, 2nd Place: Skipton, 3rd Place: Wharfedale, 4th Place: North Craven.

February 2017: Table tennis champion!

Table tennis

Hallie Fitton (Year 6) became North Yorkshire under 11 champion at table tennis, having recently gaining the title in February at a North Yorkshire school's competition. Hallie attends coaching each Tuesday morning before school, as well as after school each Wednesday, coached by Noel Chipman. He reports that Hallie is extremely talented and dedicated to improving. Hallie also trains outside of school each Tuesday and Friday at Howarth Hawk’s table tennis club.

As North Yorkshire champion she now qualifies to compete at the national school's competition to be held at the end of April at Wolverhampton.


9th November 2016: Y5/6 Girls' Reach South Craven Football Tournament Semi-Finals!

Our Y5/6 Girls' Football team reached the semi-finals of the South Craven Football tournament. The team played local schools and performed incredibly well, as this was their first tournament as a school team.



2rd November 2016: Y5/6 Craven Football Tournament WINNERS!

Following the success at the South Craven cluster football festival, our Y5/6 Boys’ football team competed in the Craven finals on Wednesday 2nd November, competing against Giggleswick, Grassington and Water Street primary schools, playing each other twice. The team won 3 and drew 3 matches, scoring 7 and conceding just one goal.

The team will now represent the whole of the Craven area of primary schools in the North Yorkshire Finals in March 2017.

On Tuesday 11th October the school competed in the School Sports’ Partnership Cluster Round at South Craven School. We entered a Y3/4 mixed gender team into the lower Key Stage 2 competition, alongside a Y5/6 boys’ team in the upper Key Stage 2 competition.  The teams competed against Cononley, Sutton CE, Lothersdale, Cowling. Kildwick, Eastburn, Hothfield and Sutton CP schools. Each team won all their group matches respectively, astonishingly without conceding a single goal. Both teams then went on to win their respective finals competing against Cowling PrImary School. The Y3/4 team winning 1-0 and the Y5/6 team on penalties. The teams will now go on to compete at the School Sports’ Partnership Finals on the 2nd November at South Craven School.

Thank you to all parents and families who supported the event, a special thanks to Mrs Hardaker and Miss Simons who coached the Y3/4 team and to Mr Hardaker and Mr Wilson-Humphrey for their support coaching the Y5/6 team.

6th October 2016: Cross Country Craven Final Giggleswick

The top 6 runners from each race, at last week’s South Craven Cross Country event, competed at Giggleswick School on the 6th October, representing the South Craven district of schools. The runners competed against children from other schools in the Craven district, with the top eight finishers* from each race being selected to run for the Craven team at the North Yorkshire Finals in March 2017. The team did extremely well, with four children now going on to compete at the finals! Well done to all children and thank you to parents for your support. Thanks also to Mrs Wilcock for coaching the children during lunchtimes this week.

28th September 2016: Cross Country South Craven Primary Schools

The first sporting event of the academic year took place on Wednesday 28th September. The South Craven Cross Country Running event, held at South Craven School, gave our KS2 children the opportunity to compete against local primary schools.

The top 6 runners (highlighted below) in each race will now compete at Giggleswick School on the 6th October.

Well done to all runners for completing a gruelling course, you all did brilliantly! Thank you to Mrs Singleton, Mrs Sugden and Mrs Morris for your support in organising our teams at the event.
