Mathematics at Glusburn

Below are details of the two main initiatives we have to support your children in their learning of Maths.

Glusburn Space Mission

Aimed at supporting your child with instant recall that can help support future learning. Children receive a set of objectives including facts and simple calculations that children should learn off-by-heart. Children should work on these at home and will be regularly tested in school to check their recall before progressing onto the subsequent planet.

Our aim, is that children progress through the solar system, passing a particular planet before the end of the academic year.  However, children are welcome to progress quicker if able. Click here to see the objectives.

Year Group Aims:

Yr 1, Mercury.  Yr 2, Venus.  Yr 3, Earth.  Yr 4, Mars.  Yr 5, Jupiter.  Yr 6, Saturn, Uranus & Neptune.

Times Table Rock Stars

Time Tables Rockstars is a fun, online programme, allowing children to practise their times tables at home and in school. All children have an individual username and password that will enable them to access their account.  The more questions children get correct; the more coins they earn which can be used to change their clothing, hairstyle and accessories.  The games available include tailored sets of questions set by class teachers and competitions that are playable against peers in their school.

Both the TTRS website and app are completely safe, with children only identified by their 'rock-star name' and no messaging service available.

Supporting Children at Home

As well as the initiatives above, there is a wealth of resources available to help you in supporting your child at home with Maths.  The best learning comes from the environment that is all around us and should be used to support children in promoting fluency, here you can see some examples of how this can be explored for children in the EYFS, KS1 and KS2 settings.

Mathematics Workshop: Monday 23rd March 2020 (postponed due to COVID-19 school closure)

Our upcoming Maths Workshop is designed to offer support and guidance for parents and carers of children in our EYFS, KS1 and KS2 settings.  Helping you to develop an understanding of the Maths your children will be exposed to as they progress through school, explore how we teach Maths at Glusburn and how it has changed, develop an awareness of testing requirements in Primary School and understand further how to support your children at home, with the opportunity to answer any questions you may have.
